Radiesse®
Dr. Douglas Senderoff, a renowned Board Certified NYC Plastic Surgeon was one of the first Manhattan, New York plastic surgeons to use Radiesse®. Radiesse® is a safe, FDA-approved dermal filler that can be used to restore facial volume and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds around the cheeks, nose, mouth, and jaw. As the aging process progresses it is common to lose volume of the cheek area and develop laxity of the tissues of the face and neck. These changes can produce a hollowing of the cheek area along with jowls and prominent nasolabial folds. While severe cases of facial laxity may require a skin tightening procedure such as a facelift patients with mild to moderate wrinkles can often benefit greatly from the use of this facial filler. Radiesse is also indicated to restore the loss of facial fat known as lipoatrophy resulting from the use of antiviral medication for the treatment of HIV. (Please view the Board Certified Plastic Surgeon’s facial wasting website for more information pertaining to treating facial wasting.)
Radiesse® is composed of calcium microspheres suspended in a gel. These microspheres form a scaffold that your body fills in with its own collagen. In time the calcium microspheres are reabsorbed by the body leaving behind a natural framework created by the body.
Benefits of Radiesse®:
- Quick, non-surgical treatment performed in-office
- Can help the body naturally produce collagen
- Zero downtime
- Long-lasting results (up to ~15 months)
Manhattan-based Board Certified plastic surgeon Douglas M. Senderoff, MD, FACS is very experienced in the use of Radiesse® for the restoration of facial volume and the correction of wrinkles of the face. During your consultation with Dr. Senderoff, he will evaluate the nature of your skin with regard to the degree of laxity as well as the severity of volume loss and depth of any wrinkles or folds.
If you are a good candidate for the use of Radiesse as a facial filler, the treatment can be performed the same day in most cases. No allergy testing is required prior to injection. Radiesse® is injected into the skin under local or topical anesthesia through several different sites around the area of volume loss. After the procedure iced compresses are recommended to reduce injection site swelling and the risk of bruising. Discoloration and tenderness at the injection site may occur but usually resolve after a few days.
While desired results are usually seen after one visit some patients may require follow-up visits to perform touch-up injections. The results of Radiesse® are not permanent but they are long-lasting with many patients seeing improvement for 1 year after treatment.
Patients who are interested in learning more about treatment with Radiesse® are welcome to schedule a complimentary Radiesse® consultation with New York City Board Certified plastic surgeon Douglas M. Senderoff, MD, FACS at either his Manhattan or Westchester office.
