Buttock Augmentation
Buttock Implants
As an experienced board certified Manhattan, New York
plastic surgeon, Douglas M Senderoff, MD, FACS is recognized as
a leading expert in the field of buttock augmentation. The
Manhattan Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Senderoff, has presented his
original research at the Aesthetic Society Annual meeting and
served as an instructor at the Aesthetic Society teaching course
on buttock implants. The NYC Plastic Surgeon's teaching video on
buttock augmentation is used by plastic surgeons worldwide who
wish to learn his surgical technique. The
NYC Plastic Surgeon has performed
more buttock implants than any other plastic surgeon in the
Northeast, United States.
Buttock Augmentation can be accomplished through a variety of
methods. The most permanent way to increase the size of the
buttock is with the use of a solid silicone implant. The other
method of enlarging the buttock involves liposuction with fat
transfer to the buttocks. There is no FDA approved filler that
can be used in the United States to permanently increase the
size of the buttocks. Unapproved fillers such as silicone can
cause permanent deformity including skin changes, lumpiness,
granuloma formation and interference with the ability to perform
buttock implant surgery in the future. In addition, injectable
fillers cannot be removed once they are injected into the
buttock. Liposuction with fat transfer can be an effective
method to augment the buttocks. The major drawback to fat
transfer is the high likelihood of significant shrinkage of the
augmented buttock as the transferred fat is reabsorbed in the
months after surgery. Fat transfer is also limited by the amount
of fat that can be harvested from the patient. Very thin
patients often do not have enough areas of fat that can be
suctioned and transferred to the buttocks.
Inserting a solid silicone implant to in the buttock can produce
a dramatic and pleasing result. The New York City Board
certified plastic surgeon, Douglas M. Senderoff, MD, FACS has
extensive experience using solid silicone implants to improve
the appearance of the buttocks and performs the surgery in his
Manhattan, New York outpatient surgical facility.
During your complimentary buttock augmentation consultation with board certified NYC plastic
surgeon, Douglas M. Senderoff, MD, FACS you will be evaluated to
determine whether you are a good candidate for buttock
augmentation. The best candidates for buttock augmentation are
patients with a flat or deflated buttock who desire increased
projection and fullness. Patients who have undergone massive
weight loss may require skin excision or a buttock lift in
addition to the insertion of an implant if there is a lot of
loose skin present. Dr. Senderoff will show you the different
buttock implants available and recommend the size and shape of
the implant needed to achieve your goals.
The Manhattan Plastic Surgeon recommends an antiseptic body wash
be used the night before and the morning of surgery to reduce
the amount of bacteria on the skin. The day of surgery in the
office just prior to the start of the operation the buttock
implant size is outlined on the skin of the buttocks to
determine the best placement of the implant. After the patient
is asleep in the operating room an incision is made in the fold
between the two buttocks. A pocket is dissected that is the
exact size of the implant that is going to be used. This pocket
can be made either in the intramuscular plane which is within
the gluteus maximus muscle or in the subfascial plane which is
in the lining above the gluteus maximus muscle. The buttock
implant is then inserted through the midline buttock incision
and the incision is closed with stitches. Drains are sometimes
used in order to collect any fluid that may accumulate around
the implants after surgery.
During the recovery phase of the buttock augmentation surgery
patients are instructed to rest in the prone position for
several days. Strenuous activity such as vigorous exercise
should be avoided for several weeks after surgery. Pain
medication is available as needed to minimize discomfort.
Wearing compression shorts can also help to minimize discomfort
and reduce swelling as healing occurs. The buttock will be a bit
swollen and tender after surgery but this condition is normal
for the first few weeks. It is important to keep the follow up
appointments so the NYC Plastic Surgeon can check for any
problems that can occur after surgery. The most common problem
after buttock implant surgery is the presence of fluid around
the implants. This fluid can usually be removed by inserting a
small needle on one or more occasions until the fluid is gone.
Infections are rare and can be treated with antibiotics or in
severe cases implant removal and replacement of the implant at a
later date.
It may take several months for the final results of the buttock
implant surgery to be evident especially if liposuction of the
lower back or thighs was performed at the same time of the
buttock implant insertion. At that time the implant should feel
like a natural part of the body similar to a well toned muscle.
The buttock implant surgery has a high satisfaction rate among
patients who are looking for a permanent enhancement of the
gluteal region.
