Pectoral Implants
Board Certified Manhattan Plastic Surgeon Douglas M. Senderoff, MD, FACS has extensive experience in the latest
techniques in pectoral enhancement (pectoral implants). The
Manhattan Plastic Surgeon has been
performing pectoral augmentation using solid silicone implants
for many years in his Manhattan, New York outpatient surgical
facility. The Manhattan Plastic Surgery has helped educate other plastic surgeon
in the techniques he uses for pectoral augmentation through his
instructional video on pectoral implants which he created in
order to help other surgeons learn the procedure.
Enhancement of the male chest can be achieved through the
insertion of a solid silicone implants (pectoral implants). The pectoral implant is
different from a breast implant which is composed of a silicone
gel. The pectoral implant is a solid block of silicone which
cannot leak. It has the feel of a muscle at rest. Ideal
candidates for pectoral implants are men who have an
underdeveloped chest which is resistant to growth despite
regular exercise. Other candidates include men or women with pectus excavatum (sunken chest) or Poland's syndrome (absent
pectoral muscle). By inserting a pectoral implant an increase in
the size and projection of the pectoral region can be achieved.
At the time of consultation board certified NYC plastic surgeon
Douglas M. Senderoff, MD, FACS will examine your chest and
determine if you will benefit from pectoral implants. The
Manhattan Plastic Surgery as a wide selection of pectoral implant sizers in
varying sizes and shapes which he uses to select the right
implant for you. Before and after photos may be reviewed at the
time of consultation. By choosing the appropriate implant the
pectoral region can be dramatically enhanced. An increase in
central projection or upper pole fullness can be obtained as
well as an enhancement of existing muscular definition. Pectoral
implants of different sizes can be used to correct pre-exisiting
asymmetry resulting from uneven growth, prior trauma or over
aggressive gynecomastia surgery.
The Manhattan Plastic Surgeon performs the pectoral implant surgery in his fully
accredited outpatient surgical facility on Park Avenue South in
Manhattan, New York. He recommends the use of an antiseptic body
wash prior to surgery to reduce the bacterial content of the
skin. After the patient is asleep in the operating room an
incision in the axilla (armpit) will be made. An endoscope or
tiny camera is inserted through the axillary incision to enable
the Manhattan Plastic Surgeon to visualize the creation of the implant pocket
and to inspect for any bleeding. The implant pocket is created
below the pectoralis major muscle to provide adequate coverage
of the implant and provide a natural look and feel. After the
implant pocket is created the pectoral implant is inserted
through the axillary incision and placed in the desired
position. The skin is then closed with stitches and the patient
is placed in a compression vest to reduce postoperative
swelling. Drains are used when needed to reduce the chance for
fluid to collect around the implants.
After surgery, patients are instructed to refrain from strenuous
activity for 4-6 weeks while they are healing. It may take
several weeks to several months for the final results to be
evident while the implant settles and the new implant pocket
takes shape. Over time the axillary scar fades and becomes
inconspicuous in most patients. Some of the potential
complications include asymmetry, fluid accumulation around the
implants which can be removed through needle aspiration in most
cases and rarely infection.
Endoscopic transaxillary pectoral augmentation using solid
silicone implants is a rewarding procedure that can help
patients achieve their ideal look. As with any surgery patients
need to be realistic about their goals and be willing to commit
to the healing process. Iti is important to follow up for
scheduled postop appointments to ensure a smooth recovery.
