Dr. Douglas Senderoff
completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at Emory University
and his master's degree in Human Nutrition, at Columbia University.
After he received his medical degree from State University of New York
Health Science Center, Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Senderoff trained in
general surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City.
The Manhattan Plastic Surgeon completed his residency in plastic
surgery and a Microsurgery Research Fellowship at The Mount Sinai
Medical Center in New York. He is the author of numerous
publications relating to wound healing and has
received local and national recognition for his research in the
field of microsurgery. The Manhattan Plastic surgeon has lectured
both nationally and internationally on the various areas of his
expertise. The Manhattan Plastic Surgeon is certified by the
American Board of Plastic Surgery and the National Board of Medical
Examiners.
Dr. Senderoff is a board-certified plastic surgeon with special
expertise in aesthetic surgery of the face and body. He is
certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is a
member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons and a Fellow
of The American College of Surgeons. The Manhattan Plastic
Surgeon was trained in plastic surgery at The Mount Sinai
Medical Center in New York where he completed a microsurgery
research fellowship. During the course of his training he
received local and national recognition along with numerous
awards for his original research in the field of microsurgery
relating to wound healing. The NYC Plastic Surgeon performed his
general surgery residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in New
York. He earned his medical degree from the State University of
New York, Downstate Medical Center. He earned a Master’s degree
in Human Nutrition from Columbia University in New York. He
completed his undergraduate education at Emory University in
Atlanta, Georgia.
He is the author of numerous publications and has presented his
research at major plastic surgery conferences around the U.S.
Dr. Senderoff has produced several teaching videos to educate
plastic surgeons in the techniques he uses for buttock implant
surgery, pectoral implant surgery and advanced liposuction.
The Manhattan Plastic Surgeon has incorporated the latest
technology into his plastic surgery practice in order to provide
his patients with the best results. One of the advanced
technologies that Dr. Senderoff uses includes the Canfield 3-D
patient imaging system. This system allows Dr. Senderoff to
capture a three dimensional image of the patient’s face or
breasts that can be computer enhanced to produce a realistic
simulation of the results of surgery. This imaging system
enables the NYC Plastic Surgeon to better communicate to the
patient through the use of visual images that illustrate what
may likely be accomplished through surgery.
Dr. Senderoff has experience with the latest technologies in
liposuction including laser and ultrasonic devices. He was one
of the first surgeons in New York to offer his patients Vaser
ultrasonic liposuction which uses sound waves to selectively
target fat cells prior to suctioning. The NYC Plastic Surgeon
uses advanced endoscopic techniques to precisely create the
pocket when inserting an implant through the axilla for either
breast or pectoral augmentation. The NYC Plastic Surgeon
participated as a clinical investigator in the McGhan Silicone
Implant study. His data along with the data collected by other
plastic surgeons was presented to the FDA who ultimately
determined that silicone implants are safe to use for breast
surgery. The Board Certified NYC Plastic Surgeon also uses
endoscopic techniques to correct brow ptosis or sagging.
Endoscopic brow lifts can be performed through small incisions
in the scalp, avoiding the need for a large forehead scar.
Dr. Senderoff has extensive experience in buttock augmentation
using solid silicone implants as well as harvested fat. He has
developed a special surgical instrument for buttock implant
surgery used by many surgeons which has proven essential to
obtaining excellent results. The NYC Plastic Surgeon is often
consulted by other plastic surgeons for his expertise in
managing the recovery of buttock implant patients that
experience prolonged healing due to complications from surgery.
He has used the data from his years of experience with buttock
implant patients to educate other surgeons on the safety of the
procedure and improve patient outcome.
Dr. Senderoff has extensive experience with the use of facial
fillers to correct the wrinkles and loss of facial volume
associated with aging or disease. In addition, Dr. Senderoff is
experienced with the use of surgical adhesives to aid in the
recovery of facial surgery patients by minimizing bruising and
fluid accumulations under the skin.
Dr. Senderoff has incorporated the use of a variety of lasers
and light based devices to enhance the results of surgery. These
devices may also be used in place of surgery for patients who do
not require surgical procedures. Some of the nonsurgical devices
offered include Velasmooth for cellulite reduction and IPL and
Erbium laser treatments for facial rejuvenation and scar
reduction.
The Manhattan Plastic Surgeon has incorporated his background in
nutrition to create a line of products known as Nutrisurgicals
that can aid in the recovery of patients undergoing surgical
procedures. These postoperative recovery products include a
combination of vitamin supplements, antioxidants and immune
system boosters, along with a homeopathic remedy, a healing
cream, and a balanced nutrition bar.
The Manhattan Plastic Surgeon has investigated the use of pulsed
electromagnetic energy in the healing of postoperative plastic
surgery patients. This technology can reduce swelling, bruising
and inflammation at the site of surgery resulting in less pain
and better recovery. These healing devices are available to his
patients after surgery.
Dr. Senderoff is dedicated to understanding and meeting the
needs of his patients. After years of experience caring for
plastic surgery patient he realizes the expectations that
patients have regarding their potential results. He is committed
to providing his patients with the best experience possible when
undergoing elective plastic surgery. He has created an
environment where he and his staff are available to help his
patients from the moment they enter his office to well after
they have healed from their surgery.
The Manhattan Plastic Surgeon is an active member of
following medical societies:
American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Member
New
York State Medical Society, Member
American College of Surgeons, Fellow
The NYC Plastic Surgeon is affiliated with numerous hospitals
and surgery centers in the New York area including:
-
Lawrence Hospital
- Bronxville, New York
-
United Hospital
- Port Chester, New York
-
Beth Israel Medical Center
- New York, New York
-
Cabrini Medical Center
- New York, New York
The Manhattan Plastic Surgeon is a Clinical Instructor of Surgery at Weill
Medical College of Cornell University.
The NYC Board Certified Plastic Surgeon is experienced in the latest techniques
in cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery including tumescent
liposuction and endoscopic surgery. He specializes in body
contouring procedures including breast enlargement and liposuction, as
well as face and eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty.
Dr. Senderoff, is a Board Certified Plastic
Surgeon, what does "Board Certified Mean"?
Q: How does a doctor become Board Certified?
By choosing a plastic surgeon who is certified by The American Board of
Plastic Surgery, Inc., you can be assured that the doctor has graduated
from an accredited medical school and has completed at least five years
of additional training as a resident surgeon. This includes a minimum
three-year residency in an accredited general surgery program and a
minimum two-year residency in plastic surgery. To become certified, the
doctor then must successfully complete comprehensive written and oral
exams. Board Certification is a voluntary process.
Q. Why is The American Board of Plastic Surgery,
Inc. different from other plastic surgery (or cosmetic surgery) Boards?
ABPS is one of the 24 specialty boards recognized by the American Board
of Medical Specialties (ABMS). It is the only ABMS Board which certifies
in the full spectrum of the entire specialty of plastic surgery.
Q. What is the difference between membership in a
society, association, academy and being a Diplomate of ABPS?
The ABPS Diplomate is a certified physician who has met the requirements
outlined above. The mission of The American Board of Plastic Surgery,
Inc. is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the
public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination,
certification and recertification of plastic surgeons as specialists and
sub specialists. Societies are professional associations. The specific
society, association or academy should be contacted for specific
membership requirements and mission.
Q. Define accreditation and certification, and
licensure.
Licensure is designed as minimum standard necessary to practice
medicine. It is a public function, administered by the states, the
standards are established through a public process and all actions taken
- both in granting a license and in restricting or withdrawing a license
- are matters of public record. Licensure is not specialty specific and
permits an individual to provide to the public any medical or surgical
service he/she desires.
Certification by a specialty Board attests to 1)
completion of a prescribed set of education and training requirements in
a specialty of medicine beyond the minimum requirements for licensure,
and 2) passage of examination that test the fund of knowledge in that
specialty. Most specialties now also require periodic recertification,
which generally requires completion of specified continuing education
and successful completion of a further examination testing the fund of
knowledge in that specialty. Many health care organizations and health
plans now require certification in order to provide services in the
relevant specialty area. Board-certified physicians govern specialty
Boards in that specialty.
Accreditation is awarded to licensed physicians who have conducted their
professional activities in accordance with standards set to define
quality in professional practice. These standards include ethical
behavior; absence of disciplinary actions by hospitals, licensing
agencies, or financing programs; participation in peer review;
participation in clinical self-assessment; operation of a safe,
patient-centered practice that meets criteria for quality; and
participation in measurement of clinical performance and patient care
results, including patient satisfaction. Accreditation is not specialty
specific. Accreditation reports include information on the physician's
license status and specialty board certification. The American Medical
Accreditation Program can be contacted for further information.
