Breast Augmentation
Breast Implants: Silicone Breast Implants
Breast Implants: Saline Breast Implants
Breast Implants (Saline Breast Implants or Silicone
Breast Implants), Breast Lift, and Breast Reconstruction
are several breast surgery specialties performed in the
Manhattan, New York Plastic Surgeon. All breast procedures
are performed by the NYC Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Douglas Senderoff, MD FACS.
The Manhattan, New York, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, uses
FDA approved saline filled breast implants or silicone breast
implants. The NYC Plastic Surgeon will personally discuss with
you which type of breast implant - silicone breast implants or
saline breast implants - would be right for you (during your
free breast augmentation plastic surgery consultation). The following information will help you
better understand the breast implant operation as performed by
the Manhattan Plastic Surgeon.
There are several breast augmentation options that you may choose for breast
enlargement surgery with breast implants. These options include
the site of the placement of the breast implants: either above
or below the muscle and the choice of the incision through which
the implant is placed. Breast enlargement can be accomplished
through either a transaxillary (armpit) incision, inframammary
(below the breast) incision or a periareolar (through the
areola) incision. The Manhattan Breast Implants Plastic Surgeon will
discuss all these options with you.
Your breast implant plastic surgery will be performed at the Board Certified
Plastic Surgeon's fully accredited Manhattan, New York
outpatient surgical facility; under local anesthesia with
intravenous sedation or under general anesthesia. Once your
plastic surgeon, Dr. Senderoff, completes your breast implant
surgery, you will be fitted with a support bra and a light
dressing. You will most likely be back on your feet within a
couple of days and back to full activities within a few weeks.
BREAST IMPLANT CHOICES
Breast implants can come in a variety of shapes, most commonly
either round or contoured. You can discuss which breast implant
is best for you during your complimentary consultation with the
NYC Plastic Surgeon. The surface of the breast implant can
vary as well, being either smooth or textured. While those
breast implants with a textured surface were designed to reduce
the risk of capsular contracture, there is little evidence to
prove that this is true. Breast implants come in a variety of
sizes as well. For many of the Plastic Surgeon's Manhattan, New
York candidates, the size of the breast implant, and thus the
desired size of their breasts, can be the most difficult aspect
of breast augmentation. Patients must have sufficient tissue in
order to accommodate a larger breast implant, otherwise the
breast implant may be more palpable following the plastic
surgery, the edges more easily seen and felt through the skin.
Furthermore, breast implants that are too large for the amount
of tissue may increase the risk of surgical complications.
Excessively large breast implants may cause the breasts to
prematurely droop or sag.
There are two basic types of breast implants and these
include the following:
Saline-filled breast implants, the choice of
the breast implant being used for nearly all breast augmentation
surgeries by plastic surgeons. These are breast implants which
are inserted and filled, typically through a valve, with a
saline or salt-water solution (similar to the fluid which
comprises most of the human body). The location of the valve can
vary, typically on either the front or the back of the breast
implant. There are also saline-filled adjustable breast implants
which are relatively new to the market and allow the surgeon,
through an additional small connector tube, to adjust the size
of the breast following surgery through a simple injection.
Saline fluid can either be added or drained to increase or
decrease the size of the breast, possibly for up to several
months following surgery. Saline-filled adjustable implants are
not offered by all surgeons and require an additional incision,
and thus an additional scar.
Many women still opt for saline breast implants, even though
silicon breast implants are offered by the NYC Plastic Surgeon,
which feel and look less natural but can be implanted with
smaller incisions. Saline implants may have a lower rate of
capsular contracture than silicone implants. If you are
uncertain about the type of breast implants you want, it is best
to discuss your concerns with the Manhattan Boar Certified
Plastic Surgeon.
Silicone Gel-Filled Implants. Silicone breast
implants are made of silicone gel and encased in a rubber shell.
In November 2006, the FDA approved silicone breast implants for
use in the United States. Previously, silicone implants had been
suspected of causing systemic health problems; however, multiple
studies and expert-review panels have shown that these claims
were false. Silicone implants have been safely used by plastic
surgeons in Europe for years, and now American patients can once
again take advantage of the natural look and feel of silicone
breast implants. At his Manhattan, New York practice, Board
Certified Plastic Surgeon, Douglas Senderoff offers breast
augmentation surgery with both silicone and saline breast
implants.
The NYC Breast Implants Plastic Surgeon will discuss the goal of your proposed
breast enlargement surgery, and go over the entire procedure
with you. The following information will
help you understand the operation.
Operation: The breast implant surgery operation
will be performed in the Board Certified Plastic Surgeron fully
accredited New York City office in Manhattan - his surgery
center, or in the hospital as an out-patient. The breast
enlargement operation with breast implants itself lasts for 1 to
1 1/2 hours. You will stay in the Plastic Surgeon's recovery
area until you feel comfortable to return home. Suture removal
is usually one week after surgery.
Anesthesia: Patients have a choice of either a general
anesthesia or intravenous sedation anesthesia. As in all of our
operations, the anesthesiologist is a board-certified, and
highly skilled, experienced anesthesiologist. If the breast
implant is placed below the muscle, the operation is usually
performed under general anesthesia.
Convalescence: After breast enlargement surgery with
breast implants, it takes approximately one week to ten days to
fell comfortable. You should refrain from athletics for three
weeks after surgery. You can feel free to call the Manhattan
Plastic Surgeon at any time during your recovery period.
Insurance Information: Breast enlargement
plastic surgery with breast implants is rarely covered by any
insurance program. However, if there is a congenital
maldevelopment of one or both breasts, this may be covered, and
would depend on which carrier that you might have. Some
insurance companies will cover the removal of ruptured silicone
implants. If you do have a ruptured breast implant, our New York
office will contact your insurance carrier to help you determine
if you are covered.
Revision of Breast Enlargement: Because of the
Manhattan Plastic Surgeon's years of experience, he often corrects problems that
have been associated with breast enlargement with breast
implants in the past. Breast augmentation surgery, both
new and revisionary procedures, are the most common procedures
performed by Douglas Senderoff, MD, FACS.
If you have experienced complications or dissatisfaction with a
previous breast implant surgery, you may want to consider a
breast implants revision plastic surgery; you can discuss this
with the Palstic Surgeon during your free consultation.
Dr. Senderoff's unique surgical approach and years of experience
with breast surgery make him the ideal doctor for you to have
perform your breast implants revision plastic surgery.. He can use breast implant
revision surgery to correct many different complaints that women
have about their previous results including:
Changing Implant Size
Replacing Implants
Improving Look and Feel
Correcting Capsular Contracture
